CHRONIQUE :

Personnellement, je suis un grand un grand fan de Death Metal (aussi du Old-School que du moderne, du Brutal Death ou du Doom Death) et l'année 2015 ne fut pas un gigantesque cru pour le Death mais il a regorgé de quelques petites pépites ( Only The Ruthless Remain de Skinless, In The Crypt Of The Flesh Eater de Morbidisicm, Dead Man's Path de Malevolent Creation ou encore The Anthropocene Extinction de Cattle Decapitation ) mais revenons sur cette fin d'année 2015 et plus précisément le 18 Décembre avec un groupe de dernière minute mais qui vaut vraiment l'écoute : L 'album Purified Throught Devastation de Against The Plagues !

 

Se qualifiant de « MODERN EXTREM APOCALYPTIC METAL », Le quatuor venant de Chicago dans l'Illinois nous propose un mélange très bien dosé de Death Metal Old-School parsemé de solo bien Heavy le tout mélanger de Blasts Beats typé Black Metal. Instrumentalement, les grattes de Aaron et Jon sont bien tranchantes, efficaces et nous sortent des riffs et des solos qui paraissent assez simplistes qui sont bien plus efficace que beaucoup de groupes de Death voir même de Brutal Death actuels. La voix de Shaun alterne entre un chant gutturale très profonde tout en étant précise et compréhensible et un chant crié dans des sonorités Black Metal très efficace. La batterie de Varyen est très rapide et très précise et qui sait dosé ses breaks pour donner quelque chose de putain d’énergique sans en faire des caisses. Seul la basse de Milo est je trouve pas assez mise en avant malgré des parties techniques qu'elle joue. Mais parlons plutôt de ce dernier album nommé Purified Throught Devastation !

 

L'album est vraiment très bon dans l'ensemble avec des riffs très efficaces mais pas super techniques pour autant, un mixage et un son aux petits oignons (LE gros point fort de cet album) qui mélange bien ses riffs de Death très Old-School et les parties se rapportant plus au Black Metal avec une production très propre et moderne très proche de se qu'on peut trouvé dans le Brutal Death Metal. Le groupe se paie même le luxe de mettre un morceau dans une atmosphère très planante et aérienne avec quelques petites notes à la guitare acoustique se nommant ''Falling Further'' et qui marche à chaque fois sur moi. Mais l'album n'est pas exempt de défauts, notamment la longueur de certains morceaux qui nuisent à l’expérience ( et par extension la longueur de l'album en général ).

Against The Plagues nous propose un très bon album de Death Old-School/Black Metal qui malgré la longueur de certains morceaux sont sublimés par la production juste incroyable et des riffs et des breaks très inspirés ! Chapeau Chicago !

Personally I am a big big fan of Death Metal (also the Old-School as modern, Brutal Death or Doom Death) in the ear of 2015, it was not a gigantic year for the Death but it has been also enormous. ( Only The Ruthless Remain Skinless, In The Crypt Of The Flesh Eater, the Morbidisicm, Dead Man's Path of Malevolent Creation or The Anthropocene Extinction of Cattle Decapitation ) but let's get back to the end of the year 2015 and more precisely, on December 18th with the last minute of a group that is worthy to listen to it : Album Purified Through Devastation of Against The Plagues.

 

They are calling themselves « MODERN EXTREME APOCALYPTIC METAL », , The quartet is from Chicago, Illinois,  suggest us a very good mix of Old-School Death Metal sprinkled with a heavy solo mixed with Blasts Beats Black Metal type, Instrumentally, the guitars of Aaron and Jon are very sharp, effective and we come out riffs and solos which seem simplistic enough which they are much more effective than many Death groups or even current Brutal Death.

 

The  Shaun's voice alternates between a deep guttural singing while being precise and understandable and a shouted vocals in very powerful Black Metal tone. The drum of  Varyen  is very fast ans also very precise too, who knows how to measure his breaks to give a fucking energetic thing without making cylinders, only the bass of Milo whom I find not quite good enough despite the technical parts it plays. But let's talk about this last album named Purified Through Devastation.

 

The album is really good, very efficient but not super technical riffs are provided, a mix and a sound with onions, ( the main strength of this album ) which mixes well its riffs of very old school-death and the parts are related more to Black Metal with a very clean and modern production, very close to what we can find in the Brutal Death Metal. The group is even paying the luxury of putting a track in a fantastic and aerial atmosphere with some small notes on acoustic guitar calling itself '' Falling Further '' and that works every time on me. But the album is not free from exempt of mistakes especially the length of some tracks that hindering the experience (And by extension the length of the album in general).

Against The Plagues offers us a very good album of Old-School Death / Black Metal that despite the length of some tracks whom they are sublimated by the amazing and inspired production of riffs and breaks, High Five Chicago!
